The Role

The CFO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), serves as a key member of the Executive Management team and assumes a strategic role in the overall management of the company. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all legal and financial related activities of the companies.

The CFO will have overall management responsibility for all financial related activities of the company including accounting, finance, treasury, budgeting and forecasting, reporting, tax and other regulatory compliance. Reporting to the CFO will be the Accounting and Corporate Services functions. The CFO will maintain strong company relationships with the Board of Directors, Board Committees, External auditor, banking institutions, and government and regulatory agencies.

Areas of Responsibility include:

Strategy Development and Execution

  • Contribute high level of business value to the creation and execution of the strategic plan/business plans that directly impact revenue growth, profitability and the creation of shareholder value.
  • Lead key initiatives in finance that support overall strategic goals.
  • Provide financial analysis and synthesis, insight, advice and reporting on operational performance to the CEO and other executive management, which highlight strengths and deficiencies and contribute to sound operational decision making.
  • Provide leadership in developing tools that facilitate better decision making by the Management team. Direct the development of forecasting tools that allow the company to model the outcome of specific business initiatives or assumptions across a broad range of measurement data.
  • Provide leadership in working with Business Leaders/CEO in annual planning/budgeting, and ongoing reporting, trends/forecasting.
  • Lead development and execution of strategy for growth through Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), through vetting of identified firms, deal structuring, due diligence, integration planning and implementation.
  • Compliance, Controls, Reporting and Administration.
  • Oversee the Accounting function to assure appropriate, timely and accurate financial processes and procedures.

Responsibilities include:

  • General accounting. Accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), payroll, billings and collections, capital expenditures, insurance, treasury, banking, cash management, investment management.
  • Reviewing & approving monthly fund valuation for Merchant Advance.
  • Quarterly financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Legal & regulatory reporting and compliance, including tax filings.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and effective corporate and financial policies
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources, provide financial management and oversight of payroll & benefits functions.
  • Managing investor communications.
  • Manage the external audit process and Offering.
  • Manage financial related IT projects.

Finance & Treasury

  • Manage the balance sheet, developing strategies and plans to manage capital expenditures. The objective to improve return on equity and return on assets.
  • Build/maintain financial models, budgets, and variance analysis.
  • Provide financial leadership and oversight.
  • Manage/negotiate capital raising & terms across capital structure.
  • Oversee day-to-day treasury decisions.

Professional Experience/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Accounting Designation required: CA, CMA, CGA – CPA.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in senior financial management position (Prior CFO / VP Finance experience is preferred).
  • Financial services industry experience preferred.
  • IFRS experience.
  • Credit risk experience is a strong asset.
